Cuba Accommodation - Havana

The buildings in Old Havana are redolent of a rich and proud past. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Habana Viejo is a fascinating part of the city, especially for the architecturally-inclined. In recent years, painstaking preservation has sparked a certain civic pride, and reminded Cubans, and visitors alike, just how beautiful a city Havana really is.

Cultural sites in Havana are endless, including the striking Plaza de Armas, the imposing Castillo de la Fuerza Real and the Palacio de los Capitanes. World-class museums and galleries are plentiful, documenting everything from flora and fauna, to the words of the poet Jose Marti.

GrandSlam can accommodate you in some of the best 3-5 star hotels in Havana although our recommended and prefered hotel is the Parque Central.

Hotel Parque Central (Old Havana)
This luxurious hotel facing historic Central Park is located in close proximity to the famous Malecón Boulevard that runs beside the sea. Also nearby are monuments, museums, shops, night clubs, cafés and cabarets. Enjoy the colorful spectacle as thousands of 1958 Chevrolets, bicycle taxis and Russian Oeral motorbikes parade by Parque Central and El Capitolio. It’s right at your doorstep when you stay at the Golden Tulip Parque Central. All this and much more is yours to enjoy within a short stroll of Old Havana’s only true, 5-star hotel. Entirely built in detailed neo-colonial style, from the top-floor swimming pool to the open-air restaurant, it boasts a panoramic vista of both old and new Havana. At Parque Central, the highest standards of comfort and luxury that modern Cuba has to offer co-exist in beautiful harmony with the legacy of the country’s rich past.

Hotel Nacional (Vedado)
There's nothing quite like watching the Caribbean Sea wash across the Malecon at dusk from your room at the Hotel Nacional. Inaugurated on December 30, 1930, the Nacional is one of the most classical and emblematic hotels in Havana. Its luxury, elegance, distinction and first-class services remain intact after six decades of undisputed leadership in the Cuban hotel industry. Guests at the 5-star Hotel Nacional enjoy splendid, comfortable rooms (including a Presidential Suite), two pools, lovely tropical gardens, tennis courts, numerous restaurants and bars, and more. Additionally, the Nacional's Cabaret Parisian (along with the Tropicana) is a must for those wishing to make the most of the warm Havana nights.

Hotel Habana Libre (Vedado)
Located in Havana's Vedado (business) district, the Hotel Tryp Habana Libre is Cuba's largest hotel. Formerly the Havana Hilton, the Habana Libre is popular with American business travellers (in fact, CNN houses their news bureau here). The rooms are nice (the views are incredible), and there's a large pool.

Hotel Santa Isabel (Old Havana)
The charming 4-star Hotel Santa Isabel sits proudly in the famed Plaza de Armas, in the colonial section of Old Havana. The hotel was originally a palace, built in the nineteenth century for Count De Santovenia. The turquoise and stone building is made even more beautiful by halfmoon-shaped stained glass windows, while the inner courtyard is open to the sky. The rooms have attractive colonial-style furniture and iron beds. Rooms on the third floor have semi-private terraces, from which to take in the Plaza below. The hotel also has Junior Suites, complete with a living room and jacuzzi. Museums and tourist attractions are nearby. The Hotel Santa Isabel prides itself on comfort and service.

Hotel Melia Habana (Miramar)

Located in Miramar, a beach community just minutes from downtown Havana, the Hotel Melia Habana is first-class across the board. Opened in 1998, the Melia Habana offers everything that you'd expect from a 5-star property, including many fine restaurants, swimming pools, private beaches, a gym and tennis courts.

Hotel Ambos Mundos (Old Havana)
Built in the 1920s, the elegant 4-star Hotel Ambos Mundos housed a rather well-known guest for a decade or so, Ernest Hemingway. In fact, it was in room 511 that he nurtured the plot for For Whom The Bell Tolls. Today, after a much needed and painstaking renovation, the Ambos Mundos is once again, in all its glory. Be sure to request one of the top floor rooms overlooking the Habana Viejo. Also, be sure to visit the rooftop bar, as the views are incredible.

Hostal Comendador (Old Havana)
This quaint inn once belonged to the family of Don Pedro Regalado Pedroso y Zayas, Commander of the order of Isabel the Catholic. Like most older mansions in San Cristobal de La Havana, the Palace, reflects Moorish aspects, such as the main entrance, which is set at an angle. You will appreciate being just a short stroll from one of Havana’s most important squares, San Francisco de Asís. Then, in the evening relax on your balcony and savor the picturesque view and the caresses of gentle breezes that drift up from Havana Harbor.

Hotel Riviera (Vedado)
Prestigious symbol of The Havana. Its beauty, its caribbean captivation, its cozy environment convert it into the most wanted hotel by the visitors: poets, dancers, painters, actors, Premiums Nobel writers, artists of all kind, ambassadors, officials, presidents and famous world figures. Located front to the impetuous Caribbean Sea, with its romantic Malecon and in the heart of the capital, just in the Vedado, the residential zone more considerable of Cuba, the Habana Riviera is imposed by its special atmosphere that offers its environment.

Hotel Chateau Miramar (Miramar)
Facing the warm Caribbean, the 4-star Chateau Miramar is central, comfortable, distinguished and private. Located in the exclusive Miramar neighborhood, the hotel is close to Havana's National Aquarium. With a nice pool, as well as the beach just steps away, the Chateau Miramar is well situated.

Hostal Valencia (Old Havana)
The Valencia is conveniently located on a very special corner just meters away from the Plaza de Armas, where the Valencians traditionally worshipped. Built in the late 18th century as a private home that was once owned by Sotolongo, a City Councilor, the Hostal Valencia now opens its doors to travelers from around the world. A carved red roof, balustrades and intricate wrought iron balconies imbue the hotel with a fresh appeal and resplendent light.
