Guests will be accommodated at
La Finca, a simple but charming 3 star hotel
with guests housed in traditional cabanas
in the gardens. All rooms have en-suite
bathrooms and air conditioning. In addition
the hotel has a restaurant, bar and there
is room service.
La Finca is some 45 minutes from the fishing
at Las Salinas as until recently the area
was closed and no visitor accommodation
was needed in the reserve. Daily transport
will be provided from La Finca to Las Salinas.
Watch out for the crocodiles as they have
been known live in some of the larger puddles
in the track - but don't worry as in reality
they are more scared of us. The journey
would also not be complete without dodging
the land crabs!

| Fishing |
Guests can fish over miles of flats
which range from pure white sand, to areas
of turtle grass to shallow mangrove areas,
all with perfect gin clear water. Engines
are banned and guides pole guests to the
fishing areas on small two man skiffs. Even
so the fishing is so close to our GrandSlam
base that guests can be casting to bonefish
within 10 minutes of leaving the shore.
A maximum of 6 rods a day will be fishing
so with the amount of fishing to choose
from it will not be crowded! Our guides
are professional fishing guides as well
as being wardens on the reserve so their
knowledge of the flora, fauna and more importantly
fish is un-paralleled. With so much choice
available they will always be able to select
the best flats for the conditions, wind
direction, and guests skill!
The flats do provide good wading and the
fish can be stalked on foot if chosen, but
a quieter approach can often be achieved
via the skiff. Also the skiff can travel
more quickly when stalking travelling pods
of fish. Our skiffs will be upgraded for
the coming 2003 season with slightly larger
specialist 2 man skiffs allowing for anglers
to fish with a partner (one at as time)
if required.
The main fly fishing target species at
Las Salinas on the flats are bonefish, permit
and the occasional snook and barracuda.
The majority of the bonefish will be in
the 4-6 pound bracket with larger fish running
to 8-10 pounds. Permit tend to be in the
15 pound bracket. Basic advice, should you
need it, on the basic techniques for catching
these fish can be found in the tactics and
tackle section if you want to read up before
your trip. All the guides however will provide
more detailed, and excitable, guidance when
you are on the water!
