Fishing

The Rio Negro is only a short journey from our base at La Finca and guests will quickly be into some rod bending sport in this beautiful esturine environment. Our guides are professional fishing guides as well as being wardens on the reserve so their knowledge of the flora, fauna and more importantly fish is un-paralleled. With so much choice available they will always be able to select the best areas for the tide, wind conditions, wind direction, and guests skill!

The fishing is done from general purpose boats with outboards and we will continue to use these for the early part of this season until they are replaced with custom built fishing boats.

Guests are able to fish with light spinning tackle for snook, jack and tarpon, drifting down the channel casting plugs and rapalas into the margins to tempt out those big fish. Fly fishing for tarpon is a must here and while the tarpon are classified as baby these are still be sizable fish!.........large pods tarpon are often found cruising this area.

Advice, should you need it, on the basic techniques for catching these fish can be found in the tactics and tackle section if you want to read up before your trip. All the guides however will provide more detailed, and excitable, guidance when you are on the water!
