Snapper (various) -Cuba is home to several species of snapper including the Cubera Snapper, a round-bodied, spiny fish with dog-like teeth and a reddish body with bold vertical stripes. Cubera reach weights of over fifty pounds along the reefs in Cuba and they are superb, aggressive fighters.

They are a target species when fishing outside the flats at La Salinas along with smaller Cubra (weighing up to twelve pounds) which can be found in flats margins where they love to hide among the mangrove.

Pargo or mutton snapper have even rounder bodied with a pink back, pale flanks with vague stripes and a distinctive black spot. Highly prized by fly-fishermen, they are occasional visitors on to the flats but are more commonly found around the flats margins.
